Happy weekend, everyone!
It’s wedding season!
If you’re reading this on Saturday morning I’m sitting in the hair and make-up chair.
Soon I’ll head back to our room to get gussied up for Kyle and Melody’s wedding.
It’s a big day!
But first, I’m joining Kim and Elizabeth for our weekly post full of current obsessions,
favorite things, this and that, odds and socks.
Have you heard that expression?
It was a favorite of my dad’s.
Anyway, it’s time for our weekend meanderings roundup.
Once again, I’ve got weddings on the brain.
Today it’s all about what I’m wearing over the three-day wedding weekend.
Not to worry, these are things I’ve had my eye on for a while and aren’t wedding specific.
But the wedding was the perfect reason to add them to my closet.
At least that’s what I told Jim.
Last week, in wedding edition part one, I shared my rehearsal lunch outfit.
And my little wardrobe mishap.
Many of you voiced your opinion on the replacement dress I should wear.
And I wore option #1!

Ok … let’s get to it.
FOR THE LOVE OF BLAZERS
Do you love a blazer? I love a blazer. One of the things I miss most about my working-in-the-city days is getting properly dressed for the office. Blazers were a big part of my work wardrobe. With skirts, dresses, or pants … a blazer always pulled my outfit together and gave it a polished, professional vibe. Well, these days looking professional isn’t a big consideration … but looking polished never goes out of style. With that in mind I recently added this blazer to my closet. t’s an investment piece. But a versatile one that I’ll wear again and again … for years. Maybe decades.
My new blazer enjoyed its first outing last night at a casual wedding guest meet up. Here’s how I wore it.
Blazer / Bodysuit / Denim / Similar Wedge / Bag / Necklace / Earrings
This is the Veronica Beard Miller Dickey Jacket. The brand is known for their jackets with detachable dickeys. I ordered the denim dickey with this jacket. And I have another Veronica Beard in a pinstripe with a sweater dickey. I love both. And the great thing is the dickeys and jackets can be mixed and matched. So fun.
Last night I wore it with a Skim’s bodysuit, sans dickey. It would also be adorable with a white, ruffled blouse or a blue and white stripe blouse. And I can’t wait to pair it with white jeans, a white tee or bodysuit with the denim dickey zipped in.
MINI BAG TREND
I’m a fan of the mini bag trend. It’s been going on a few years and seems to be sticking around. I’m talking about a mini. Not a micro mini, which is on trend for sure, but totally impractical. I need a mini you can put stuff in and last night I debuted this navy mini bag. It held everything I needed including my iPhone Plus. The larger iPhones can be a challenge to fit into smaller bags, or evening bags. I wore it as a cross-body … but you can remove the strap and carry it as a tote. It’s SO cute, holds stuff and comes in at least six pretty colors.
It’s another version of the Longchamp cult favorite Le Pliage nylon tote bag. Did you have the original Longchamp Le Pliage? Maybe you still do. I bought the original Le Pliage – the medium in black – at Harrods in London back in 2008-ish. I also brought them home for two of my nieces who were headed off to college. They got the large version which is like a small duffle. Anyway, these nylon totes last and last. I still have mine and it looks none the worse for a ton of wear.
But back to the mini-leather version. I adore it.
COZY VALOUR ROBE
In anticipation of my pre-wedding glam room visit, I bought this cozy new robe. My old spa-style robe has seen better days. Lately I’m hearing lots of gushing over Skims robes from podcasters and bloggers I follow. They aren’t wrong, and I am pleasantly surprised. I’m mentioning Skims a few times today, which surprises me because I’m not one to keep up with the Kardashians. But when something’s good, it’s good. And it seems that the Skims brand is quality stuff. The robe is velvety soft and so cozy, and it looks and feels luxurious. I’ll be swanning around the hotel hallways looking darned chic.
Robe / Shapewear / Hair Wrap / Diffuser / Slippers
FUZZY, FAUX FUR SLIPPERS
Could I wear a new robe without new slippers? Ummmm …. no. Have you noticed that fuzzy, faux fur slippers are a thing? A Skims robe and fuzzy slippers … I feel so with-the-program. I looked at many fuzzy slipper options before I settled on this Ted Baker slipper. I’ll try to get a photo of my glam room get-up once my hair and makeup are done, of course.
I showed the robe and slippers to my niece who is getting married later this year. She loves them and thinks they’ll be great for her bridal party glam session.
POWER UNDERWEAR – SPANX VS SKIMS
So much talk about Skims today. Last night I wore a Skims short-sleeved bodysuit. Today I’m wearing a Skims robe. And tonight, I’m wearing … Spanx. What? I looked at the Skims shapewear and decided Spanx was the better option for my … ahem … problem areas. I was also shopping for two of my nieces attending the wedding tonight. I introduced them to Spanx years ago and they are fans. But Skims is a brand for the young and hip and they wanted to give it a try. They opted for the Skims mid-thigh sculpting short.
Recently I did a scientific Instagram Story poll to see who prefers Spanx or Skims. The vote was overwhelmingly Spanx. That said, my followers tend toward my age range, and we are more familiar with Spanx. My research tells me the younger set prefer Skims. All good. Whether we don Spanx or Skims we’ll be equally thrilled to get out of them and breath again at the end of the night.
I’d like to say, again, how impressed I am with the Skims products. They also offer a variety of skin tone options which is a plus. Kim Kardashian, please accept my apologies for any snide remarks I may have made in the past. I’m a Skims convert.
That’s not to say I think any less of Spanx. They’re amazing. Obviously. Over the course of many years, they’ve allowed me to wear dresses I had no business in without them. I can also attest to the miracle of double Spanxing, which I may resort to tonight.
So, there you have it.
Five things you never wanted to know about me.
Next week we’ll be back to our regularly scheduled programming.
I promise.
Now off you go to see what got Kim and Elizabeth’s attention this week.
As always, I appreciate your visit and welcome your thought in the comments below.
Cheers to the (wedding) weekend!
