Weekend Meanderings … Father’s Day Menu, A Summer Spritz + More!

Happy Father’s Day Weekend, friends!

It’s Saturday and I’m meeting up with Kim and Elizabeth for Weekend Meanderings.

Snowberry’s summer porch refresh is up on the blog.

Did you see it?

I know you’ve got a lot to do this weekend.

So let’s get to it.

FATHER’S DAY MENU

Are you hosting a Father’s Day gathering? Jim’s been at the Food & Wine Classic in Aspen this week. He flies home on Sunday and Kyle’s coming for dinner. What’s on the menu? So glad you asked.

Hopefully it’s nice enough to eat outside. After a short heatwave it’s cooled down. Last night was a little chilly. I’m not complaining, I see temperatures soaring in other parts of the country … and I hope you’re staying cool.

AN ESSENTIAL GUIDE FOR RENOVATING AND DECORATING

The New Design Rules by Emily Henderson is a playbook for home renovations and refreshes. One I wish I had before taking on my first reno project. Chockfull of great information on the what’s and how to’s of all the decisions and design choices that need to be made for any project. Big or small. Emily covers every room in the house, from floor plan to artwork. If you’re looking to renovate a room, or the entire house … or simply refresh a space … this is for you. Oh, and it has pretty pictures too. Lots and lots of pretty pictures.

LIFESTYLES OF THE RICH AND FAMOUS (AKA REAL ESTATE PORN)

While recovering from my bout with food poisoning, I binged season one of The Kardashians on Hulu. I know. Can you believe I’ve never seen the original Keeping Up with the Kardashians? Of course, I’ve caught snippets here and there … how could I not? But never an entire show. I’m just going to come out and say it. I loved it. More than anything else I loved the glimpses into the Kardashian / Jenner homes. They all share a very clean and minimalistic style. And I wonder if the neutral palettes are designed with a television backdrop in mind. You know I love color, and a more traditional aesthetic, but I can appreciate other styles and their homes are quite something. My favorite is Kendall Jenner’s. It feels a bit warmer and homier to me. Architectural Digest featured it in the July 2020 issue.

Her formal living room is stunning. These sofas are so good … and the color is amazing.

Her green kitchen, with wood island countertop, also sent my heart soaring.

And her outdoor spaces are lovely.

Impatiently waiting for new episodes. I’m only watching for the houses.

BANANA REPUBLIC SHOPPING TRIP

This week I wandered into Banana Republic. It’s been a minute since I’ve been in this store. And it felt different. Elevated maybe, and more curated. I loved everything. But had to put blinders on and focus. I need something something to wear to a blogging conference next month. In Atlanta. It’s going to be hot, humid … and air conditioned to arctic temps indoors. I thought a summer dress and blazer combo might be just the thing. What do you think? Of the dress and blazer, not my dressing room selfie skills. The blazer reminds me of my Veronica Beard navy blazer, but at less than half the cost (still not inexpensive). They offer a navy version too.

I thought it would be fun to build an outfit around these two pieces. All from Banana Republic. If you haven’t been recently, by all means, go.

I got this cute pair of striped shorts too.

LIMONCELLO SPRITZER

Last night I made Limoncello Spritzers and I’m happy to report they’re delicious! Are you a fan of Limoncello? Jim used to travel to Italy frequently on business and became enamored with it. We always have a bottle in our freezer. It has a high alcohol content and is a little intense for me, but in a spritzer it’s perfect.

Limoncello Spritzers in the kitchen

It’s a quick and easy spritzer to make … lemon juice, Limoncello, Prosecco  and mint. Pour into a glass over ice. I like to use crushed ice. Pro tip – if crushing ice yourself make sure to use a sturdy bag. Like a freezer-strength bag. I used a sandwich bag and got ice all over the kitchen.

Take a look at last night’s Limoncello video here.

Here’s the recipe ~

  • Thanks for that recipe Juliet! I have a bottle of Limoncello that I bought in Amalfi in 2018. Wonder if it’s still good? I will try it.
I love the BR look – I need something to wear to a backyard engagement party in late July. But no blazer would be possible with 95º temps and 100º humidity! Yikes. so maybe short sleeves?

    • A bottle of Limoncello brought home from Italy is a special one indeed … and calls for a special spritzer! Definitely take a look at BR … so many cute, summer dresses … no blazer required! Happy weekend! xo

  • Hi Juliet! Pinned away with this post.
On a total random thought can I just say I love your ad free blog. Most of the blogs I follow and mine are overloaded with ads. I am trying to reduce mine, but after visiting your blog I need to make it a priorty.

Happy Day! Looking at a venue with our daughter this afternoon in Denver.

    xo laura

    • Good morning, Laura! Thanks for mentioning that. I struggle with the ad thing. Do I, don’t I. I really do appreciate the cleaner, less distracted look. On the other hand there are benefits to those ads. 😉 How exciting to be venue shopping … hope you find just the right spot! xo

  • Laura AD FREE makes a Hugh difference you are Spot on,!
I seldom finishing read most blogs due to the ADS,
As for Patina Farm they really have done a great job, did I tell you about my visit to their home.?
That may require a lunch date

    • Yes, all the detail son Patina Farm, please. And soon we’ll have Patina Meadow. You and I and Laura agree … ad free is very nice! Happy Weekend, Contessa! xo

  • Super cute dress and jacket Juliet! I’ve been wondering what to pack also. I think I need to go check out this jacket. I did buy a Veronica Beard jacket in navy this spring, but wondering if it’ll be too warm, but I hadn’t thought of air-conditioning. We don’t have so much of it here, but I remember Florida being like an ice box last time I went in the warm months.. You look fantastic in this cute dress. I agree Banana has elevated its things and went back to quality basics with California casual feel. Love how the whole place is now curated! Smart move.
I will check out the new book. I love Emily’s taste. I have to say I have never watched an episode of the Kardashians, but I am here for the decor. It’s totally my taste. I have saved almost all the layouts of their homes. They have had many beautiful ones and this kitchen is TDF! It makes me want this color cabinets. My grandmother’s home had this turquoise teal in it, and it has always been a favorite of mine.

I didn’t know Brooke was back blogging. I know they are selling their Ojai spot which is unbelievable. Ojai is like heaven on earth with the weather, location, etc. I suppose they can build more and cheaper in Tennessee. Kind of like the Magnolia people with a compound we can visit now! Kind of cool.

I am going to try the limoncello spritzer. This looks perfect for a summer’s day! Love your darling video too. Hope Jim enjoys the BBQ. Sounds like some yummy things. We are doing the same.
    xo

  • Juliet, there is so much to love about this post! The outfit looks beautiful on you, I wish I were going to the conference to see it in person. BR has stepped up its game over the last 2 years and the clothes look amazing, just like the old days.
I’ve not watched the Kardashians, but I do love this house. From what I have seen in AD of the other houses they are too stark and cold for my taste.
I am so excited for Brooke and Steve, and am so looking forward to the next chapter. TN is a beautiful state and after years and years in California will be a change for them in many good ways I think. I cannot imagine leaving Patina Farm, but I have followed them for years and years and know that every place they create is magical.
The spritzer sounds refreshing, I cannot wait to make it.
I hope that you are having an amazing day. Enjoy your weekend and Father’s Day with Jim and the family.
    xo Elizabeth

    • I know, I can’t imagine leaving Patina Farm either … I wonder who will buy it? Also, can you picture what it will take to move all the animals across the country? That’s going to be an interesting chapter in the story. Have an amazing weekend! xo

  • I have never watched any of the Kardashian shows, but I have to say now I am tempted, haha! Always love your fashion ideas!

  • So many great things in your post. I am a huge fan of Limoncello. Over the weekend, I had a Limoncello Martini with Limoncello Foam. It was so delicious. I will definitely be giving your Limoncello Spritzers a try. Yum!
