Happy Saturday, friends!
It’s time for the weekend post with Kim and Elizabeth, our weekly roundup of inspirations and goings on. This week I’ve got another edition of Eyeing and Buying for the New House. This is Vol. 5 in the series and includes cabinet hardware for the primary bath, a space saver for the entry closet, a set of French-inspired crocks for the kitchen that are useful and pretty, and the latest book from Martha Stewart because it’s never too late to aspire.
Everything’s going gangbusters over at the Folly. Most of the millwork is done, the primary bathtub deck is in place, the den, guest bath and foyer are painted, and the bathroom tile is underway. I’m loving the way it’s coming together.

The not-so-happy news is that the cabinetry is behind schedule. That’s entirely my fault and until the cabinets arrive there’s only so much more that can be done. Everything else is ahead of schedule.

Enough about that, let’s get to down to business; what I’ve been eyeing and buying for the new house …
Cabinet Hardware
Speaking of cabinets, downstairs in the kitchen, dining room bar, coffee/cocoa station and living room built-ins I decided to use the same Classic Brass Hutter knobs and pulls that we used in Snowberry’s kitchen and great room.
Glad the downstairs hardware is decided, but the upstairs bath, closets, laundry and attic hardware has eluded me. Our designer, Jaklyn Groom, suggested I check out Rejuvenation’s hardware options and just like that I found exactly what I was looking for … and it won’t break the bank. That’s great news, because I’m fresh out of splurge tokens.
In the primary bathroom I’m eying Ansel pulls and knobs. There are over 20 drawers between the bathroom, two closets, and laundry so I need a lot of pulls in various sizes from 4″ to 8″.
I’m mixing metals in this bathroom. The tub, sink and shower faucets are polished nickel and the lighting fixtures are brass. The cabinet hardware will definitely land in the brass family and the knobs and pulls will either be heritage brass or aged brass finish. I ordered one of each to make the final call.
The attic space — aka Make Mine A Spritzer WHQ — includes a wall of built-in cabinets and shelves and I chose the Massey bin pulls and knobs in a burnished antique finish.
Rattan Shoe Rack
In a small home, organization is everything and I’m so happy we were able to squeeze a small coat closet into the Folly’s entry. We gave up a powder room to make it happen, but … priorities. Also there’s another bathroom downstairs. The closet isn’t big by any stretch of the imagination, but it’s more than enough for heavier coats, and a couple of shelves for hats, scarves, gloves, umbrellas, an emergency flashlight and lantern. The usual stuff.
When I saw this rattan shoe rack I thought it would be great to corral the shoes that tend to accumulate in the entry area.
French Inspired Ceramic Crocks
These french-inspired ceramic crocks/planters have been chasing after me via algorithm. They’re sold separately, small or large, but I like the idea of a set. I’m planning to keep our everyday dishes, glasses and flatware in the dining bar area across from the kitchen inspired by The Cook’s Atelier.
I love the idea of using the smaller crock for flatware. And maybe the larger of the two could hold kitchen utensils by the range … or a plant. I appreciate versatility.
Gold & Tortoiseshell Clock
Does anyone else love an old-fashioned clock? I do. And I particularly like one next to my bed. It’s nice to glance over to check the time without having to reach for a device. Or look at an unsightly digital clock which is my current situation at the pied-à-terre; it has USB ports so it’s functional. Anyhoo, this round gold and faux tortoise clock caught my eye and I pinned it to my Creekside Folly inspiration board. The best part – aside from being cute – is it’s silent. Most tabletop clocks have a second hand that ticks which is barely noticeable during the day, but amplified and distracting in the quiet of night.
The Martha Way
Martha’s 100 & something-th book is out … The Martha Way: Essential Principles for Mastering Home and Living. I’ve been hanging on Martha’s every word since the early ’80s therefore you’d think I’d have my sh*t together. Hope springs eternal and it’s never too late to aspire to achieve Martha-level curation in home and life.

I live the bathroom tiles! So pretty.. and the library color. The pills you had a perfect so I can see why you stuck with them! I was overwhelmed choosing all the pulls for this house. I went to Belmont Hardware and a woman there helped me get every one in about an hour and a half ! Was a lifesaver.
If you still need any, highly recommend them.
Your crock idea is great! I love the look of the Cook’s Atelier kitchen. The clock is perfect too. So fun to find these special lovely items.

Kim! I love Belmont hardware. They’re so helpful and easy to work with. We’re ordering our Classic Brass from them and a few other things. xo
Juliet, the Folly is coming along beautifully. You have the patience of a saint. I could never ever build a house, I do not like to pick out all of the little things like molding, and knobs, etc. Rejuvenation has great hardware. We purchased out kitchen hardware from them, I think we needed 40 knobs and a few latches, not to mention handles for the fridge, and dishwasher.
The crocks are a great idea. Cooks atelier is a wonderful inspiration. You could also look for vintage crocks, maybe Annie could source them in France on her next trip,

Elizabeth! Hardware is the hardest decision and then there’s getting the proper count. Like you said, so many are needed and I’ve counted and recounted and I know I’ll still get it wrong. At Snowberry I had to place an additional order three times. I know … crazy! xo
