It’s time for the weekend post with Kim and Elizabeth, our weekly roundup of inspirations and goings on. In today’s dispatch, a Frank & Eileen fall stying event, a visit to Pottery World in Rocklin, Netflix picks, and a few other things.

So here we are … the last weekend of August, a week out from the unofficial end of summer. Not a moment too soon if you ask me … I am so ready for fall.
Frank & Eileen for Fall
Speaking of fall, yesterday I met up with a new friend, Meredyth, at Flaunt’s annual Frank & Eileen fall styling event. Local friends, get yourselves over to Flaunt today to see what’s new. You can also shop Flaunt online.
I made a beeline for the camel stripe popover. I love Frank & Eileen long-sleeved popovers and own two in basic white that I wear constantly, plus the nautical stripe. But this camel stripe might be my favorite yet. I’m wearing it with F&E’s Bray twill barrel pant made of a peach twill that’s incredibly soft and cozy.
Not that I needed it, but I brought home another sweatshirt by Perfect White Tee … this time in a warm white called “sugar.” Their Inside Out sweatshirt is a Flaunt fan favorite (and mine too), but this one is their pullover fleece style that’s a little roomier.
Back to Frank & Eileen, I loved their Bibi barrel sweatpants in navy. I know what you’re thinking … calm down with the barrel pants. Sorry, I love them, and I’m clearly not alone, judging by how many brands are now making the style in everything from denim to twill to terry and everything in-between.
If you can’t tell, I’m a big fan of the Frank & Eileen brand. In addition to making comfortable, stylish pieces I want to wear again and again, they’re a woman owned, woman led certified B-Corp which means they meet standards for social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency. Also, their pieces are made here in California. I rest my case.
Meredyth bought some cute things too including the camel stripe popover. We’re twinning. After filling up our F&E shopping totes, we walked across the street for lunch at Locanda Ravello … which I highly recommend if you visit Flaunt today, or any day.

Pottery World in Rocklin
Speaking of lunch (and fall) … on Thursday I met up with BFF Shelley Welley for shopping and lunch at Pottery World in Rocklin. I’ve driven by it a gazillion times on the way to Lake Tahoe or Auburn to visit niece Sophie, so it was fun to finally stop in and see what it’s all about. Shelley lives nearby and visits often so she guided me through. I knew they had an big assortment of outdoor pots, planters and fountains, and I’m on the hunt for a limestone trough to convert into a fountain for the Folly’s backyard and figured they might have something. They didn’t.
Inside, we were greeted by an enormous Halloween display. Yep, Halloween is out in full force at Pottery World, right alongside fall decor. It definitely put me in the mood for fall, even with it nearing 100° outside.
I love a good pumpkin.
Pottery World is like a department store – indoor and outdoor furniture and decor, petals and stems, women’s clothing and accessories, a baby boutique, and gift items like pretty soaps, lotions and candles. It took us a while to navigate around the entire store.

The store also has a very popular cafe with indoor and outdoor seating (they don’t take reservations but you can put your name in, grab a beeper and shop while you wait).
On the way out of the cafe, I got a picture with “Gloria,” who sits in the restaurant lobby greeting guests. There’s a story here, but I’m not sure what it is. The host told us to look in her eyes because they move. Yikes. That aside, she seemed nice.
After lunch, Shelley gave me the grand tour of her new home … she’s been there four-plus years, but it was my first visit. Shelley is a season decor enthusiast and with a flair for styling; seriously, she should be styling the displays at the Pottery World’s of the world. Her home is currently in its late-summer season, sunflower-forward, and will begin transitioning to fall next week.
This beautiful yellow container on one of her family room shelves caught my eye. It reminds me of a piece my grandmother had and I loved.
Shelley created this adorable tipi moment for one of her grandsons. Inside it’s so cozy with an elephant chair, lion book basket and lantern.
Over at the Folly
Over at the new house, we’re in the fun phase, where all the finishing touches are being added. I shared an update last week in the latest edition of Eyeing and Buying.
We’ve had a couple of recent hiccups, which is to be expected. We decided to tear out the tile in the downstairs shower, and the replacement tile will take a couple of weeks to arrive … which is holding up shower door and bathroom mirror measurements. We’re also waiting on a few light fixtures to arrive, and there are five (ugh, five) others that just aren’t going to work out. Jim says I need to rent a small retail space and open a resale lighting store.
Netflix (and other) Picks
- Shipwrecked: Nightmare at Sea (Netflix) about the 2012 Costa Concordia cruise ship disaster (can you believe it’s been that long?). Do not watch if there’s a cruise in your future.
- Sticking to the disaster genre, The Bombing of Pan Am 103 (Netflix), a six-part series dramatizing the murder investigation led by Scottish police in conjunction with the FBI.
- Leanne (Netflix) season two is out!!!
- Season four of The Chelsea Detective is out on Acorn. I love British detective shows, but this one took a while to grow on me.
- Ted Lasso (Apple TV) season four … Ted returns to coach the Richmond women’s team
A Good Cry
A word about Dolly Parton … over the past few days I’ve spent way too much time reading tributes and watching old clips of her concerts, films, television appearances, and interviews across the decades. I’ve cried and laughed and cried and laughed some more. It feels like Dolly has always been there. My first memory of her is around age 12, Jolene on repeat on our radio at home and in the car … my southern mom was a country music fan. At 18, I’d just started my first real job, in an office, when Nine to Five came out and the theme song is still on my workout playlist, and I never tire of singing along.
Dolly meant so much to so many and the most reasonate thing I’ve heard said of her is that she was one of one … there certainly won’t be another. It wasn’t just her voice, her songwriting talent or her superstardom, it was who she was beneath the hair, the makeup and the sequins. Dolly was all goodness and light, and as the vast scope of her contributions continues to be revealed, her tower of goodness only grows. She often said, “the higher the hair, the closer to God” and I think the same holds true of her good works. We will always love her.

I so enjoyed your post today! I’m ready for fall too…it’s been so hot and humid in North Carolina. Also Frank & Eileen is one of my favorite brands as well and I enjoyed your picks! I may need that cropped cardigan. Pottery World looks amazing and your friend’s tipi has inspired me to create a little nook for my granddaughter who’s coming to stay with me in a couple of weeks!

Nanci! The tile is a very long story, but the bottom line is the tile that arrived (after a 3 month backorder) was not the tile we ordered (our sample had been mislabeled) but the tile we intended was no longer available. The darker color worked in theory, but not reality. It’s a beautiful tile, but it made the tiny room feel dark and gloomy, and the grout took it to a new level of awful. It bothered us so much we decided we had to make a change. Sigh. Hope you have a happy weekend! xo
What a nightmare tile situation. You were right to get what you really wanted. No sense in being in a dreary shower after all the thought you’ve put into designing the home. Can’t wait to see it all finished. No more hiccups allowed!!

Oh no, sorry to hear about the last minute speed bumps on the Folly. Life happens, however it’s hard to just chill, and go with the flow at times. You have a very good attitude. Maybe after you frown several times and with a what!!!!
I’m with you Dolly is one of one. I grew up with her. I embrace everything she stood for. The real deal, what you see is what you get. Loved her music and she had the best real heart. Growing up without privilege I so relate to. Why is it that those that grew up without privilege are the most giving? Dolly would give her last whatever to you. Our Felon should take lessons from her way of being. Enough said!!!

Katherine! I’m with you 100% … it is fascinating that those who grew up with so little seem to be more compassionate and giving to others. Dolly’s good works know no bounds and we’re still learning more and more about the scope of her generosity. Love your recommendations for TV and book recommendations! I will definitely tune in to Leanne for a good laugh but stay away from the disaster stuff. Everyday life feels a little like a disaster right now with the national “events” and the passing of our Dolly.

Oh Juliet, so sorry about the hiccups, especially having to rip out the tile! Hope it’s smooth sailing here on out. Your home is looking super lovely and I can’t wait for the total reveal. I’ve been to PW in Rocklin a couple of times, but can’t seem to find what I’m looking for. Haven’t eaten at the cafe. Well, we all have been teary-eyed about Dolly…so hard to believe she is gone. Amazing gal with a heart of gold. I just love her Imagination Library and I would love to see the smiles of all the kids who have received a monthly book. She was and is an angel. Xo

It’s hard to comprehend her loss, I spent a good part of this morning reading and watching more of her incredible work and the tears keep coming. Juliet I’m so glad you and Shelley got to Pottery World because we always whiz by and it looks small from the highway. I had no clue it was huge, had a beautiful indoors – and a cafe! It’s on my list along with your Auburn garden spot. Shelley has a lovely home. How lucky is her grandson? Love that little tent. I think it’s fun to see people who enjoy the seasons and embrace it.
You found some great pieces at Flaunt. Wish I was closer. Those barrel sweats are on my list now. They are flattering! Love the style on you -and that cute striped top. F&E pieces are gorgeous quality. Worth the expense. In a world of fast fashion, they are the opposite.
Locanda Ravello! I’ve been to that thanks to you. You have the best restaurants up there. I want to go back.

I love that popover top of Frank and Eileen’s as well. I am not a stripe person (I know I know they are so popular) but that camel stripe is fab!! So sorry about the tile fiasco…I am hoping we can get together in September. I will be there during the week most of the month!

Just picked up a brand new set — popover and sweats — in black from Poshmark. I was surprised to learn that Dolly was just 80. Like you said, it seemed like she had been here for longer.
