Today on weekend meanderings, snapshots from the Lafayette Lifestyle Tour, pulling together a darling twin bedroom, and savoring our last days at Snowberry.
Happy Saturday, friends!
It’s time for the weekend post with Kim and Elizabeth. Our weekly roundup of inspirations and goings on.
Happy Mother’s Day weekend! And what a weekend … we’re enjoying the first couple days of summer-like weather. It’s gorgeous and sunny – in the low 80’s – which feels quite hot when you’re outside doing garden chores. It’s the prettiest time of year for our garden and our roses are blooming like crazy.
Jim’s off to Oregon to visit his mom and family for the weekend. I’m home nursing a cold. After a month of going gang busters, I hit a wall. I guess nature has a way of letting you know when it’s time to take a break. And for that reason today’s post will be to be short. I say that a lot and then things take on a life of their own and I end up writing a novel, but today I mean business. Plus, you – who are not felled by a cold – are looking forward to family related activities and ready to get on with it.

Speaking of Mother’s Day, we sent Jim’s mom a Mrs. Bakewell’s cream tea box. And I tucked candles from Hotel Lobby’s Summer Collection into his luggage for his sister-in-law and niece.
If you’re local in need of last minute Mother’s Day gift ideas, remember that Flaunt in Danville is hosting the second day of their Jenny Bird jewelry styling event today. Ashley, Denise, and Mercede from Jenny Bird, will be there to help you pick the perfect gift for mom … or yourself! I hoped to run by yesterday or today to pick out the perfect gift for me, but in my current state I’d be about as welcome as a skunk at a garden party. Achoo.
Last weekend’s Lafayette Lifestyle Tour was as fun as ever. A good home tour is one of the joys of spring. Five houses – two of which did not allow photos, boo. I posted some Instagram stories while on the tour and saved them in my highlights here.
My favorite thing on the entire tour was this indoor outdoor bar situation.
I also loved this gorgeous deck looking out toward Mt. Diablo. It’s 5:00pm somewhere.
Jim dubbed this the Master of the Universe’ office.
And here we have the Master of the Universe’ bathtub.
The final house, large and in-charge, I found it endlessly fascinating.
The kitchen and pantry were enormous and I couldn’t capture it all. Needless to say, I could make do here.
The rest of the great room, dining and sitting, was lovely with a ton of natural light.
Jim was endlessly fascinated with the laundry room. Which, let’s be honest, is larger than our entire house on 4th Street.
I think the machines are the stackable, one unit, LG’s.
The outdoor spaces were lovely and I caught more of them in my stories. The table was set by White Barn Home.
As usual we had a great time on the tour and ran into many fun peeps including Dana Green, Ashley of Modern Glam Home (and Flaunt), and April, friend of Kim and former blogger at Ms. B in the Bay Area. Really fun to meet her! And all the fun gals of the Lafayette Juniors that work so hard to put the tour on … hey, Kendal and Jennifer!
Yesterday, our cute twin bedroom was dismantled and carted away by the staging fairy’s at the Dana Green Team. I was sad to see it go. The room brought back happy memories of those fun years when my nieces and Kyle were young and frequently at our house for weekends with their friends. Kyle, Sam and Soph are in their thirties now, and married. I shared Kyle’s wedding here and Sophie’s wedding here.
But it wasn’t until youngest niece Shelby moved to San Luis Obispo last fall, with her boyfriend, that it really hit home. The years of kids sleepovers, birthday party’s, soccer games, spring break adventures and other kid related fun is over. For now.

And how is Shelby old enough to have a boyfriend?!!!

Anyhoo, you’re probably tired of me going on and on about this sweet bedroom and I appreciate you humoring me this one final time.
I did a deeper dive into what made up the layers on these twin beds. I already shared the Sasha’s Garden comforters at the foot of each bed, and matching shams. The base layer, scalloped bed skirts, are probably these. Ours are all white but they come with several colorful trim options. The duvets are all white. And the pillow layers are the Sasha’s Garden shams, Serena & Lily’s Euro shams (similar) in white with pink trim, and CB2 textured toss pillows in pink and white (similar). Let’s give some love to the big giraffe in the corner for a bit of whimsey.

Before the bedroom vanished I invited styling genius, Alli Bentz, and interior photographer extraordinaire, Jessica Brydson, over for a final photo shoot. As you can see, it’s serious business.

Alli made a couple of flower arrangements. She buys her flowers at Trader Joe’s and somehow manages to turn them into magic, which I’m completely incapable of doing. Look at the tiny ombre tulips. The arrangements are in this set of wicker wrapped vases.
And the next day I did something I’ve been talking about for three years and hired a videographer @dremarvisuals to create a YouTube style home tour of Snowberry. We’ll see how that works out. Can you tell I’m having a hard time letting go?
Last week I mentioned we were considering a quick beach getaway in June or July. We were debating Hawaii or Cabo and leaning toward Hawaii. Well, we made a decision and it’s Cabo. We booked an ocean-front room with plunge pool at the Four Seasons Los Cabos. We love a room with a plunge pool and they’re harder to come by in Hawaii. If you’ve been there, please share your thoughts and experiences. I’m counting the days.
Before booking travel we have to get all our ducks, or more accurately dogs, in a row. Can we get flights and the hotel room we want at the same time there’s room for Pippa and Maggie at the Dogs Breath Motel? I swear having pets is more challenging than kids when it comes to vacation logistics. But have no fear, the stars aligned and we have something to look forward to that will keep us going as we continue the tedious tasks around packing to move.
Because it’s a relatively short trip, it’s just us and there are no events involved, and it will be hot … I think I can pack a carry-on bag. That said, my Tumi carry-on is super small. My BFF Jane is packing for a more significant trip – Europe – but she’s going to be on six flights in a short period of time and needs to pack a carry-on. She mentioned looking at Quince’s carry-on bag and I’ve heard a lot of good things about it so I decided to investigate. Sure enough it’s bigger than my carry-on, it’s expandable, and I think I’m going to give it a try. But in what color? I’m leaning toward navy or dark green.
Jim suggested I buy the Beis weekender I’ve been eyeing, and I’d jump at the chance, but for this trip I think it’s a little too optimistic for my packing abilities.
Speaking of beach getaways, yesterday I received an email from Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection announcing a 5-night Caribbean itinerary departing December 10th. My review of the Ritz-Carlton’s Evrima is one of my most popular posts and I get emails all the time asking about our experience. Long story short, it was fabulous. Anyway, five nights is the perfect amount of nights for me to be on a cruise. Ahem, yacht. I also love a port-a-day itinerary, although I’m fine with one day at sea. Our itinerary was similar last year, although we didn’t stop at St. Thomas. We’re tempted by this itinerary.

I’m still working on the books I mentioned last week.
In the reading realm, I enjoyed this Substack on learning to read the classics.
Currently watching ~
We’ve been watching MobLand on Paramount+ starring Pierce Brosnan, Helen Mirren and Tom Hardy. Oh, and Joanne Froggatt, from Downton Abby, among others. I love all the actors, and its very good … but it’s violent. I’m not sure I’d continue if Jim wasn’t into it. But I’m glad he is because I want to see how it plays out … and I can cover my eyes.
I’m curious about The Judd Family: Truth Be Told, a four-part docuseries over two nights starting tonight on Lifetime.

So that’s what I have for you today.
Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms including mine in heaven.
And to all the grandma’s, aunties, sisters, cousins, step-mamas and friends who sprinkle their love and fairy dust over the adored children in their lives.
