It’s time for the weekend post with Kim and Elizabeth, our weekly roundup of inspirations and goings on. Today I’m sharing a divine baby shower, favorite pieces from Evereve, and highlights from the week.

It’s June! Remember last week I whined about our unusually winter-like weather? A good reminder to be careful what I wish for because this week’s temps shifted dramatically. As I tap away on today’s dispatch, the air conditioner is cranking and I wonder if my legs are too pale for shorts. The answer is … yes.
One of the benefits of warmer days is the excuse to drop into Sideboard, a darling cafe downtown, on my daily walk from pied-à-terre to Folly. I’m parched and their ice tea is so refreshing.
Speaking of the Folly, there’s not much going on. There was a little progress, like grout on the bathroom floors. And stone on the upstairs shower jam and bench.
Also, Pippa turned 12 on Monday. 🥳 She and Maggie celebrated sharing a dog-patty from In ‘n Out.

On Cloud Nine – A Baby Shower Celebration
Last weekend I attended DIL Melody’s baby shower. She and Kyle are expecting baby Shya in July. Melody’s mom, aunt and sister hosted the shower at her aunt’s beautiful home in the Los Altos Hills area. The theme, envisioned by Melody, was etheral divine cherub and, as sister Harmony said, “your vision is our command.”
Needless to say everything was beautiful and perfect. Look at that cake … details later.
Melody’s mom is a talented floral designer and created lovely arrangements in keeping with the shower theme. Melody’s mom loves color but was committed to Melody’s neutral vision … and Melody promised her that she can plan a very colorful first birthday party next year!
Melody made concessions for me as well … knowing that I’d want to report the details of her shower on the blog (nothing is private with a blogger in the family), she took lots of behind-the-scenes photos the night before. She gets me. ☺️
As I mentioned, it was cold and windy last week, so it came as a very pleasant surprise when Saturday rolled around and it was warm (dare I say hot) and sunny. Perfect for an indoor outdoor afternoon event for lots of friends and family.
Melody mixed a big batch of Hugo Spritz which vanished within the first 30 minutes. I love enthusiastic guests.
Note to summer shower hostesses: double your drinks allotment. The vanishing Hugo Spritz wasn’t a problem though because there were plenty of other ice cold beverages and everyone stayed happy and hydrated.
The food … oh my gosh, the food. Three buffet tables overflowing with Persian favorites, charcuterie, fruit and desserts. Lots of desserts.
A checkerboard tray of feta cubes and olives is one of the best things I’ve ever seen on a buffet table. Kudos to sister Harmony who is a food styling genius.
Last, but not least the cake. Pistachio! Three layers of deliciousness by Bootorich Bakes.
And, no, my DIL is not Cher. I get that a lot though.
I’d say our hostess trio nailed it and everyone had a lovely afternoon showering baby Shya and her mom with love and a well stocked nursery.
What I Wore …
After much deliberation – and crowd sourcing – I settled on this blue and green floral dress for the shower and it was the right choice. My two other options included cardigans and I would have sweltered. Anyway, I justified the new purchase because I’m attending three showers this summer, with no guest list overlap, so it’s perfect for all three happy events.
Remember the chunky necklace I bought at Sezane? This was its first official outing.
My ankle wrap espadrilles were a great shoe with the dress and for an occasion where I did a lot of standing. My days of teetering around in heels are over. With the occasional exception for a high wedge or block heel.
I brought my J.Crew woven clutch … it’s been my summer and vacation go-to for years. Although this week I had my head turned by this similar clutch, with a handle, at Evereve. You can shop my entire outfit here.
Evereve
Speaking of Evereve, Sarah Shapiro wrote an interesting piece in her new Substack, The Rundown … her relaunched newsletter following Retail Diary’s acquisition by Puck media … which was rolled into Puck’s Line Sheet. Did you follow that? Anyway, her piece got my attention because I frequently confuse Evereve with Everlane.
Everlane, of course, is a brand getting attention right now – not in a good way – following its acquisition by Shein. That’s another story, but I wonder if the Shein-Everlane backlash will impact Evereve because of brand name confusion?
Which brings me back to the confusion itself. Similar names, and at first glance, not entirely dissimilar styles, although I suspect both brands’ marketing departments would strenuously disagree. I’ll admit I hadn’t shopped either brand until recently, when I included this Everlane tee in my White T-Shirt Edit. My first reaction upon hearing the acquisition news was to order two more as back up.
Here’s what I understand about each brand …
Everlane follows a direct-to-consumer model – with a handful or retail stores (apparently two here in the Bay Area), minimalist basics, a millennial customer and a reputation for sustainability and supply chain transparency. I guess that’s out the window with the Shein acquisition. Awkward.
Evereve is a multi-brand retailer carrying labels like Paige, Rails, and Pistola and many more, plus their own private label (brand list here) – targeting women over 30. They have 113 stores throughout the Unites States, one of which is here in Walnut Creek. How did I not know this? After reading Sarah’s piece I decided to find out and took a field trip to the store.
Jim was with me so it was not a leisurely visit. He settled into a chair outside the dressing rooms where he joined a couple of similarly aged – and similarly bored – gentlemen. Everyone working and shopping in the store seemed to be around our age … which I guess tracks because we are over 30. 😊
Before heading out, I browsed the website and flagged a few pieces –
This canvas tote – yes, I have a thing for canvas totes. It looks small, but it’s not a mini; I’d call it a small leaning toward medium. They didn’t have the natural/black combo in store, but they did have the navy.
This bubble hem tee is a clever solution to the should-I-French-tuck-it dilemma. I loved and bought it. These utility pants come in olive and white; I tried them on but they didn’t have my size so I’ll order online.
I wanted to try this stripped, cropped shirt but couldn’t find it in the store. This striped poplin maxi skirt is a really good – and similar but significantly less expensive than this one that’s on my wish-list.
And finally, these sandals and this bracelet were on my radar and in the store.
A few more pieces I swooned over once I got in the store –
I fell hard for these wide-leg red and white stripe pull-on pants. I generally steer clear of anything red but these are more clay and ivory and I love the very wide, loose leg. They’re almost a palazzo pant. Paired with this Z Supply tank in ecru … I feel like this combo fits right into my coastal grandma summer style.
This dress has a very I’ll-be-traipsing-through-Puglia-this-summer vibe. Sadly I won’t be, and they didn’t have it in my size. If I was and they did, it would work perfectly with this raffia clutch I mentioned earlier. I like their assortment of colorful beaded necklaces, of course I gravitated toward the neutral.
Blue and white stripes always get my attention. And this white cutwork blouse did too.
I don’t properly shop that often anymore, and it’s easy to forget how nice it is to actually see, touch, and try things on. Online is convenient, and there’s real value to both options. In this case, being in the store gave me a feel for the pieces I couldn’t find in my size or preferred color, so I can be more confident ordering online.
Everyone working there was friendly and helpful and I enjoyed exploring. I wish I’d had more time particularly for the decent-sized sale section I missed entirely. Because Jim. Aside from patient-but-not-that-patient and are-you-done-yet glances being thrown my way, I had a great time and won’t be confusing Evereve with that other brand anytime soon.

We just finished season two of Paradise on Hulu. Oh my gosh, this show! I wish we rewatched season one before moving on to season two. Last night I read through all episodes summaries to fill in some missing pieces. There’s a lot going on which you won’t necessarily realize in the first season, but looking back it all comes clear. Or sort of clear. Season two ends with the perfect set up for season three … and is has been renewed. Another year-long wait just seems cruel unusual, but still, I highly recommend.
Local friends – Partners Place, the cutest pet provisions store in downtown Martinez (owned by Tami of The Dogs Breath Motel, Pippa & Maggie’s home away from home) is celebrating two milestones today. The store’s first anniversary and Partner’s (the shop namesake) 9th birthday are part of the downtown Martinez’ Meet Me on Main event, an annual makers, vintage, and antiques market. Stop by the shop and meet Partner – his mom – for free pup treats, coffee for humans and a what sounds like a lot of fun!

I have purchased cropped T’s online from Everlane, and the fit was great for a shortie like me. My nephew asked for a pair of Nike Kobe basketball shoes for his birthday, and the only place I could find his size was @ Shein, so I haven’t purchased (yet). Love your summer clothing options: the roomy red-striped pants and little cream top are great on you!
Joan! Melody grew up in Los Gatos and went to Los Gatos High. I don’t know the area well but I think Los Altos Hills is next door? Anyway, it’s a beautiful area and must have been wonderful place to grow up. As for your nephews Nike’s, you’ve got to buy them where you can. I first learned about Shein from my oldest niece who has young kiddos to dress. By the way, that cake was not only gorgeous it was scrumptious! xo

Our family property is in ‘Palo Alto Hills’, bordering Los Altos Hills and Los Altos; it’s a lot like the hills around Lafayette to me. The elementary school bus took us all over Los Altos Hills to get home — I appreciate your blog taking me back to these fond memories!

Oh, I’ll be stealing that checkerboard tray idea! I shop at Evereve in Portland — skews a little young for me (power level 60) but the pieces that work are *good.* I like Z Supply and don’t see it many other stores.

*I don’t live in a coastal area but in central NC. This location means I am always either longing for the beach or longing for the mountains. We’re right in between.

Isn’t Evereve good? The Town & Country Village was the first one I went to and now we have it at Santana Row. I like that they have a lot of things for California casual life. The red pants and top are lovely on you – it all is. The tote is a near dupe of my favorite brand from France Rue De Verneuil. Very cute. I hope we get to shop together soon.
Max hates shipping and has a short window to wait … so I get it!!

Let’s talk totes….it’s the only style of bag I like. I’m a small purse gal. I really like this one you found at Evereve. Perhaps a tad bigger than I’m used to.
I just got a new llbean small tote and wished I had ordered the mini. But I thought for vacation I might be putting Bills sunglasses and a bottle of water in there and need more space.
Men in Stores. Mine has patience and I think Jim does too. But despite that, it’s just not the same to have someone just sitting and waiting for you to finish browsing, trying on and checking out. Bill gets it when I tell him I’m out the door for girl shopping. It means I need to take my time and he’d be happier at home.
Karen! When I tell Jim I’m off to shop or something similar he sees it as an opportunity to head for the golf course where he’s much happier! I have to say that my mini tote holds a surprising amount of stuff. From Jim’s glasses, wallet and phone – on occasion – to water bottles, light cardigans, etc. Like it’s bottomless!!! xo

You should order the red striped pants and tank. They look great on you! Love the utility pants, but they are too long for my non-model length legs. Have a lovely week!
Molly! I did buy the striped pants and tank, then got home and ordered the utility pants. I’m somewhere between 5’4″ and 5’5″ so while they may be cropped on more statuesque women, they’re full length on my which I love. Happy Sunday! xo

I currently LOVE Evereve! And we even have one locally – which isn’t usually the case in these parts. I have gotten several things from them.

Melody deep diving into the Ancestry DNA thing is a stellar idea! Cher’s ancestors are Armenian, as any fan worth her years of Cher memorabilia knows. There has GOT to be a connection, albeit many generations ago, as the resemblance is remarkable. Nonetheless, If a connection is revealed, I will be green with envy!
