Today on weekend meanderings, I’m treating myself … to a new bag, wicker welcome pineapple, strawberry mezcal margarita and a binge-worthy series! I’m also going to mention the Nordstrom Sale so bear with me.
Happy weekend friends! It’s time for the weekend post with Kim and Elizabeth, our weekly roundup of inspirations and goings on.

It was hot this week. Ugh. I don’t enjoy hot weather. Especially the kind where it doesn’t cool off at night. We had a break in the heat overnight Wednesday, and I got up at 4:00am to open the windows and let the cool air in. Two hours later I woke up again to Jim slamming windows shut and the distinct, unpleasant odor of skunk. Argh. And that pretty much sums up my week. I hope yours was more interesting … and cooler.
Nordstrom Anniversary Sale
I know. You were hoping I wouldn’t mention it … but here we are. The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. I generally ignore it, but last year I shopped it for the first time and bought several things that are still favorites. Encouraged by last year’s success, I was excited when the sale catalog landed in my mailbox. I immediately scanned through it and flagged a few things. But failed to take the next step – logging in and saving the items I had my eye on. When my sale eligibility dated arrived on Wednesday, four of the pieces I really wanted were sold out. Drat. I did rally and purchase a couple of things and I have a few more saved in my cart. I’m still mulling. Guess what? I’m going to tell you about them. Was that an eye roll? Not to worry, if you’ve had it up to here with the sale feel free to scroll past.
First of all, I was hoping to score a Reiss coat, Pistola jeans and a couple of striped sweaters. But they’re gone, baby, gone.
Disappointing, but let’s regroup and see what’s still available and worthy of our consideration …
It’s hard to imagine wearing a sweater when it’s so hot out, but I suppose fall will be here soon enough and this Theory cable knit wool and cashmere sweater is a beauty. This Free People cropped cardigan comes in four colors and reminds me of the Top Shop cardi I bought at the sale last year and wear constantly. Speaking of cardigans, this Rails cotton-blend stripe is in my cart.
Since we’re talking about fall and winter, a couple Veronica Beard blazers caught my eye. This herringbone dickey jacket and this faux leather croc embossed jacket is kind of cool too.
As for coats, this Barbour trench is a classic, and this Cole Haas rain jacket reminds me of one I’ve had for ages and wear on repeat.
I love these Paige boots in black and cognac, and booties, also in black and ochre (suede). Coach is having a resurgence and their top handle bag in pebbled leather is very tempting. It’s a classic style … love the saddle color for fall, but it’s available in black and chalk too.
As for summer classics, I included these Sam Edelman cutout sandals in my summer sandal roundup and they’ve been so popular. Available in 17 colors you can’t beat the price. Arizona Big Buckle Birks are included in the sale. Yay. And my very favorite summer sandal purchase this year, Sam Edelman’s woven raffia sandals.
I did a stock up of favorite Hanky Pinky boy shorts and True & Co. bras … I guess they’re considered bralettes. I’m going to try the low neckline convertible strap one too.
In the beauty realm, everyone makes a big to do over the beauty ‘sets’ that are exclusive to the sale and these are a few I found of interest. If you’re curious about the cult-favorite Augustinus Bader The Rich Cream, now’s the time to give it a try. It’s bundled as a 1 oz standard + 0.5 oz travel size. Supergroup has a couple of bundles, the Unseen Sunscreen set and the Play Everyday set (jumbo and travel sizes). We use a lot of that one. And finally, my favorite Drybar Double Shot Blowdryer Brush. I bought mine during last year’s sale after blowing out my original one in Europe.
And finally, it’s still summer and this Madewell tank dress is very cute.
Mini Bucket Bag
I recently treated myself to a new bag. A mini bucket bag from Mango. It looks like raffia, but it’s a cotton blend.
I love its mini size, worn as a crossbody or carried with its short strap. I think it’s super cute and I’m going to get a lot of use out of it starting with its inaugural outing to Sonoma this afternoon.
It was an easy treat because it’s far from a splurge, and it’s on sale … under $50. Mango has lots of cute, well priced bags and these are some of the others I considered before choosing the mini.
Wicker Pineapple
In other treating-myself news, a few weeks ago I ordered these wicker pineapples during Serena & Lily’s sale. I bought the set (they can also be purchased individually). I should have just bought one … the smaller one. Although the size difference between the two is barely noticeable. I placed the smaller pineapple in our entryway because … aren’t pineapples suppose to symbolize welcome or hospitality?
Strawberry Mezcal Margaritas
Lush Life by Valerie Rice is one of my favorite cookbooks and cocktail recipe sources. The book, compiled by season, is especially inspiring for summer. This week I made Valerie’s Strawberry Mezcal Margaritas.
Warning … this recipe has some heat to it thanks to the muddling of a de arbol chili. I’m not a spicy hot food kinda gal so it was a little much for me. Jim loved it. I enjoyed the sweetness of the strawberries and acidity of the citrus, but next time I’ll use half, or a quarter, of the chili.
I also made Valerie’s recommended (recipe from Lush Life) cocktail rimmer … 1/8 cup flakey sea salt, 1 tablespoon Aleppo pepper and 1 teaspoon turbinado sugar. Grab your cocktail shaker, Valerie’s Strawberry Mezcal Margarita recipe can be found here.
Presumed Innocent
Is anyone else watching Presumed Innocent on Apple TV? We made the mistake of starting the series before all the episodes are available. I hate when that happens. There are eight episodes in total, released on Friday’s, with the final episode available on July 26. The series stars Jake Gyllenhaal as Rusty Sabich. If you saw the 1990 movie staring Harrison Ford, you know the ending. That said, the series doesn’t follow the movie storyline exactly, although I assume the outcome is the same. Maybe, maybe not … we’ll see. I never read the book so I don’t know how true the original movie … and current series … are to the storyline. Anyway, we watched the first few episodes, and realized that it would be a weekly drip, drip, drip to the finish line so we decided to rewatch the movie. But back to the series, after last night there are two episodes to go and even though I (think) know what happens, the suspense is killing me.
Current Favorites ~
And that’s what I have for you today. Let’s see what’s inspiring Kim and Elizabeth.
