Today I’m sharing a few things I bought for fall … so far.
Let’s start by acknowledging the obvious, I don’t need anything for fall. Not. One. Thing. That said – surprise – I bought a few things. And there are a few more on my fall wish list that I may or may not decide to buy. Stay tuned for that next week.
I’m not going to discuss trends or anything like that. I don’t closely follow them – and I don’t mean that in a snooty patootie I’m-above-it-all sort of way. I mean it in an I’m not a fashion girlie and don’t speak that language way. It’s best to leave discussion of trends and the like to those who know a little something. I’m just going to chat about what made it onto my fall wish list … and fell into my cart.

This year I approached new purchases a little differently and more sensibly. I hope. A couple months ago I started a fall wish list and whenever something caught my eye – in magazines, catalogs, emails, blogs, Pinterest, stores … all the places – instead of making an impulse purchase, I added it to my fall wish list. A few weeks ago I went through that list to evaluate each piece and separate them by wants and needs. Easier said than done because as I said from the outset, I don’t need a thing.
What I bought for fall ~
Last month I received a golden ticket to preview Frank & Eileen’s fall styling event at Flaunt. Flaunt is my favorite local shop, which you already know because I blab about it constantly. Owned by Ashley of Modern Glam Home, Flaunt has been a Bay Area stalwart for 21+ years and is considered one of the areas very best boutiques. It’s so beautifully merchandised – from the sidewalk to very back corner – it’s a visual treat.
Flaunt always has an amazing selection of Frank & Eileen pieces along with a slew of other popular labels. And, you’ll spot some of the hippest, coolest people amongst the racks … think influencers-in-the-wild, WAGS … and me. One of these things is not like the other.
Frank & Eileen’s fall pieces have a very Ralph Lauren vibe. Is it wrong to make that comparison? The crimson reds, deep greens, blues … all the stripes and plaids. So good.
If I could pull off red, I’d buy the cropped peacoat in crimson. Ashley, who can pull it off, wore their signature shirt dress in crimson and had her name embroidered on the hem. More on the embroidery station later. Also at the event, the brand’s head of global wholesale, Effie. she’s wearing the shirt dress in forest green corduroy. She had hers embroidered too.
I wanted to try on everything but painstakingly narrowed it down to this …
First things first, Kim extolls the virtues of Frank & Eileen’s maxi shirt dress, and I finally gave it a try starting with the super-soft denim. I liked it so much I tried the new-for-fall Italian corduroy (like Effie’s wearing) in a sandy color and forest green. Which do you like best? Before you answer, I chose sand because I thought it would be most versatile for me. And it’s easily shushed up with a colorful sweater like the roll neck in the new color, British Racing Green. In my next life I’m going to have a career naming fabric and paint colors. Anyway, the sand corduroy dress isn’t available online, maybe it’s a special color for their retail partners (call Flaunt to check). In addition to forest green, the corduroy is also available in Espresso and Spice … it’s the lightest weight, softest corduroy. I’m wearing XS.

The washed linen set in olive is another piece(s) that came home with me. It’s been on my fall wish list with travel in mind. I’m wearing small. That’s Flaunt’s manager, Denise, zipping by like a blur in the background. She’s a whirlwind of fun and a styling genius. She also makes a mean Sangria and heaven help you if you sip and shop. Anyway, there was no Sangria on preview morning and I still managed to shop like a drunken sailor.
Last but not least, can you own too many striped button ups? No, obviously. I love this wide stripe (size medium) … and this gaucho style denim (size 27) is super soft. Is this a fall look? Well, for our climate, yes, and I’ll throw a sweater over the top when it finally cools off … my British Racing Green sweater.
On the way out I stopped at Kambric Studio’s embroidery station (just there for the day) and had my name embroidered on the hem of my denim dress!
If you live in the Bay Area, get yourself over to Flaunt to see Frank & Eileen’s fall pieces as well as tons of other fabulous fall clothes … and beautifully curated things for your home. And be sure to follow along on Instagram to get news of new arrivals, special events (a Mother denim stying event is coming up October 25-26) and sales!

A few others things I bought for fall …
It was love at first sight when I spotted a button front denim dress that reminded me of one I wore – from the Gap – in the 90’s. It’s a great fall transition piece because it’s still warm and will be for another month maybe longer. Speaking of transition pieces, Beek’s suede slides have been on my fall wish list for several years and are great during this time of year when sweaters make an appearance but sandals are still going strong. It bears repeating that Beek donates one day’s worth of meals to a child in need for every pair of shoes sold.
Quince’s lightweight cropped cotton cardigan is an easy piece to toss on over just about anything and works well with the dress. I feel like I could layer a t-shirt underneath it too, or a turtleneck when it’s chillier. It would be cute paired with suede boots, also on my fall wish list. Oh, and I love it with my several-years-old corduroy blazer.

I stopped by Anthropologie and checked quilted jacket off my fall wish list. And I found a great all-around ivory sweater. I love the side vent and bell sleeve detail. A pair of jeans came home with me too. Yes, they’re similar to the Frank & Eileen denim, but let’s breeze by that … nothing to see here.

This brown stripe pleat front shirt dress was on my fall wish list and I stopped by Anthropologie to try it on. The brown wasn’t available in my store so I tried on another color for size (it comes in many colors and patterns). I’m an XS.

When I went to order online and saw the black and white stripe option I and was torn. The brown stripe is certainly more fall, but I think I’ll get more wear out of the black and white stripe. I’ve already worn it a couple of times. Last weekend in the wine country I threw a lightweight black sweater on when it got chilly. I’m linking my block heel sandals and basket tote too … they’re not really fall pieces but I reach for them repeatedly year round.

Last but not least I treated myself to a new pair of sunnies while they were – briefly – on sale.
There should be a cute suede tote in this post. I ordered one from J.Crew but I had waited too long and my order was cancelled because the bag sold out. Apparently fall stuff is flying off the shelves – has already flown. I also tried to order several fall things for my house and a lot of it was sold out too. Jeez. Yesterday the first holiday catalog landed in my mailbox. What is happening? Anyway, stay tuned for my suede bag edit next week … hopefully I’ll have settled on something that doesn’t break the bank.

I’ll be back soon with what’s still on my fall wish list.
