My New Kitchen Garden, A Yummy Smoothie Recipe, Summer Coffee Table Styling & More, It’s the Weekend

Today on Weekend Meanderings, our new edible garden, a yummy (healthy) smoothie and my coastal grandmother summer continues.

Happy weekend, friends!

It’s Saturday and I’m joining Kim and Elizabeth for Weekend Meanderings.

Our weekly roundup of inspiration and goings on.

How was your week?

It started off a little gloomy here.

Overcast and windy.

And then things brightened up and heated up.

This was my lunch on Monday.

Caprese salad from Genuine Goodness.

While I was picking up lunch I stopped to browse the rack outside Maven Coco, a consignment shop next door.

I bought a pair of trouser shorts for $10!

They fit my Coastal Grandmother Summer aesthetic, right?!

Let’s get down to business.

EASY BREEZY WHITE DRESSES FOR SUMMER

This week on the blog I shared 10 (+) of my favorite white dresses for summer. My Theory linen-blend dress is currently 30% off at Nordstrom’s Anniversary Sale. The Veronica Beard Espadrille Wedges I wore with it are part of the sale too!

COFFEE TABLE SUMMER REFRESH

When it comes to home decor, I’m not much of a player arounder. When I do change things up … they generally stay that way for a while. At least for a season. This week I made my move … to refresh the coffee table tray for summer.

Woven tray filled with flowers and other things on a coffee table.

I recently bought a small blue and white fishbowl planter from The Enchanted Home and filled it with faux Cosmo stems that I already had  … then I added preserved Spanish moss to hold the stems in place and fill in the bowl. The shift to a blue and white planter necessitated a change up of books too. The chain links and little rectangular box that I’ve had forever are hold overs. Kim gave me some pretty cocktail napkins last year … I think they look nice with the new arrangement.

STRAWBERRY KALE BANANA SMOOTHY

Is there a NutriBullet hiding in the far reaches of your kitchen cupboards? I rummaged around and found mine and made Strawberry Kale Banana Smoothies … every morning this week. So delicious and I feel very sanctimonious and healthy.

The recipe makes one giant smoothly or two reasonably sized portions.

OUR NEW EDIBLE GARDEN

We had some excitement at Snowberry this week. But let’s back up …

Several years ago, during our year-long renovation, I read a feature in Sunset Magazine on Olympic swimmer Natalie Coughlin’s kitchen garden in Lafayette. I grew up in Lafayette and now live in a neighboring town. I’d barely started to dream about transforming Snowberry’s gardens, when Natalie’s garden, designed by another Lafayette native, Stefani Bittner of Homestead Design Collective, captured my imagination. Snowberry’s Garden Pinterest board was born. See more of Natalie’s garden here.

Fast forward a few years and my dreams are coming true. Stefani and her team are here transforming our raised beds into an edible kitchen and cutting garden! I’m beyond excited.

In addition to veggies, herbs, and greens we have strawberries (3 kinds) and edible flowers … also flowers for cutting. Our existing tomatoes got a lot of new friends planted around them. Next year our smaller tomatoes will be trained to grow up the trellising. What trellising? We have two arched trellises coming that will connect the raised beds … we’re waiting patiently so stay tuned.

I took another photo just before sunset. I can’t wait until everything fills in and starts spilling over the sides. It’s going to be hot this weekend and I’ll be giving the new garden extra water and encouragement.

Homestead Design Collective creates so many pretty gardens of all kinds throughout the Bay Area, wine country and beyond. You can see all of the services they offer here. We’re working with them on a plan for our front and back garden plantings which have been struggling.

You can follow Stefani and Homestead Design Collective on Instagram here. And if you’re ready to swoon check out the Garden tab of her website here. Stefani’s written two books, The Beautiful Edible Garden and Harvest: Unexpected Projects Using 47 Extraordinary Garden Plants. And she’s working on a third. Did I mention she designed the Sunset Magazine Test Garden in Sonoma, including a cocktail garden!

COASTAL GRANDMOTHER SUMMER OUTFIT OF THE WEEK

Last week I told you I’m having a Coastal Grandmother Summer and this is my OOTW. Literally. I wore some version of it all week. Every day. Yes, I changed up my striped shirts. Turns out I have a pretty good inventory of blue and white striped shirts.

I love my Sun ‘N Sand sun hat. It’s backless which makes it comfortable for reading while lounging. Preferably poolside. And, no, we don’t have a pool … but I’m still eyeing our upper lot. Jim is too … for a putting green. So far it’s a stalemate and, in the meantime, a prized hunting ground for neighborhood cats.

But back to the outfit, I’ve gotten so many wears out of my J.Crew cropped white denim they’re practically free. Apparently I’m not the only one who feels that way because they’re sold out of many sizes. This is pair is very similar and well priced. My shirt is a years-old CP Shades linen with a light blue stripe. This one from J.Crew has a similar look and feel. You know I live in my Roam puffy slides. Yikes, I can’t find them in cognac anymore … this seems to be the new version. I know they’re not everyone’s favorites.

In other news ~

The 4th and final season of Jack Ryan is available on Prime video and the last two episodes dropped yesterday. And that’s what’s on our agenda for tonight.

My friend the Contessa has had a rough go of it recently with her blog. It crashed. She regained the blog, but lost a good portion of her mailing list. She has a lovely post out this week and I encourage you to subscribe. Contessa’s posts are always beautifully photographed, thought provoking, and funny.

Are you watching Wimbledon? It’s going to be an exciting weekend. I’ve been swooning over Ralph Lauren Home’s Instagram featuring their hospitality suite at the tournament.

The temperatures are soaring here in Northern California. Kim (Northern California Style) and Cindy’s (Cindy Hattersley Design) Signature Style: Swimwear posts are well timed.

Just when I think all news is bad … this sweet man just wanted to pet dogs for his 100th birthday.

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale ~

Of course, you know the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is going on. I stocked up on unmentionables and a few other things. If there’s anything you’re eyeing … now’s the time to check and to see if it’s included in the sale. Below I’ve included some pieces in the sale that I’ve previously shared (and paid full price for, but you don’t have to), pieces I just ordered during early access, and a few more things in my cart that I’m still deciding on. In no particular order …

And that’s what I have for you this week.

Let’s see what’s inspiring Kim and Elizabeth …
