Do you love this bag?!
It was a gift for a family friend representing a long standing joke between us.
Let’s get right into it.
SPRING/SUMMER COLOR TRENDS
On Thursday’s Instagram Live, Kim and I talked about color trends … in fashion and home decor. Kim nailed it when she labeled 2023 trends ‘Easter egg’ colors. Viva Magenta is Pantone’s color of the year.
And a lot of bold, bright color was on display at New York fashion week according to WWD.
Who can forget the scene in The Devil Wears Prada where Meryl Streep condescendingly educates Anne Hathaway on the runway to retail connection.
This week at Nordstrom I saw the connection for myself and took a few snaps. Very Easter eggy, right?
Look at the shoes!!! Now that’s a way to fill an Easter basket.
I also noticed a lot of shiny, satiny finishes that remind me of the disco era but in pastel. Golden Girls meet Studio 54?!
Maxine Eggenberger for Who What Wear suggests incorporating these five colors to freshen your wardrobe for spring and summer.
- Violet Haze
- Black Magic
- Lime Wedge
- Blinding White
- Siren Saffron
Here are some accessories from Maxine’s color musts. Accessories are the easiest, and safest, way for me to tippy toe into bolder color.
I was relieved to see black and white in the mix. But how can we consider these classics as trends? Good question, and Maxine responds, ‘I’m sure some of you will argue that white is not a “trend”; it’s timeless. Here in, however, lies its power. Designers made white feel even fresher by exploring it in various fabrications—everything from silk to vinyl—and that’s precisely how we should be wearing it this year.’
In the spirit of Viva Magenta ~
As for home décor, color is also making a comeback and who could be happier about it than me?! For one brief shining moment I might be considered au courant. Me and my green kitchen.
What do you think of this shift toward bold color? Will you be incorporating them into your wardrobe … or home?
SIMPLE VASE FILLER
Many moons ago I bought this large wooden bowl at Salsa Trading Co. in Sonoma. During the holidays I fill it with pinecones and pine needles, and it was looking a little lackluster once our holiday décor was put away. I saw these boxwood spheres but they’re a little pricey, so I opted for these darker faux moss balls instead. They come in two sizes, and it took two large and six small to fill the bowl. I love an easy decorating solution, don’t you?!
UPDATE ON STRIPES
You know I love a stripe and wrote it here and here. These cheerful, well-priced striped shirts at Loft caught my eye this week. The ruffle detail on this blue and white shirt is adorable.
And I love this red, pink and white shirt … for Valentine’s Day?!
The shirt’s asymmetrical pocket is similar to The Deep End shirt at AYR that’s so popular. I think we can call the Loft shirts a AYR dupe.
NIGHTTIME MOISTURIZERS & MY SKINCARE ROUTINE
I’m fairly loyal to the products I use … including my make-up and skincare. Generally, I don’t try something new unless a product is discontinued (which happens way too frequently). And that’s how my quest for a new nighttime moisturizer began.
I’d been using an Amore Pacific moisturizer for years when it disappeared. It was light, almost gel-like, easy to apply and it absorbed into my skin without leaving a greasy residue. And it had a barely detectible, pleasant scent. Amore Pacific also makes Time Response Cream which is very similar but higher priced. I mean higher. The product I loved was expensive too, around $150, but the Time Response Cream is $450. I have to draw the line. That said, I did purchase a small jar of Time Response Cream to tide me over while searching for a replacement. Price aside, it doesn’t glide on as effortlessly as what I had been using and it leaves my skin feeling a bit greasy. The big question … did it work any miracles on my 60-year-old skin? Sadly, the answer is no.
I then went in the polar opposite direction with a drug store product, CeraVe Skin Renewing Night Cream. At $17.99 you can’t beat it. It’s a little lighter weight than the Amore Pacific and also has a benign scent. Like the Amore Pacific Time Response, it’s a little heavier than I prefer but I do like it and if I apply it while my skin’s still damp it goes on smoothly.
Next up, Jones Road Light Moisture Cream. I learned about Jones Road from Kim when she wrote about it here. I trust Bobbi Brown as an authority on skincare and makeup. And I appreciate clean products. The moisturizer has a pleasant, very light and not-noticeable-once-applied fragrance. It’s very similar in feel and application to CeraVe. The packaging is more substantial and very nice.
I’ve been using all three creams trying to decide which I like best. The Amore Pacific is a definite no due to price, but I’m finishing the jar. And I’m still open to trying more products. If you have a good suggestion, please leave it in the comments.
And that brings me to my morning and evening skincare routines. I think it’s fun to hear about what other woman are doing so in case you’re remotely interested here goes.

COCKTAIL TIME
A few weeks ago Paul Feig was interviewed on the Morning Meeting podcast about his passion for cocktails, his new book Cocktail Time: Great Advice, Embarrassing Stories, and 125 Classic and Original Drinks, and Air Mail’s recent Eight Questions, Paul Feig Knows a Good Martini. Paul’s book is billed as the ultimate guide to grown-up fun. Needless to say it was in my cart within seconds and on my doorstep the next day. Paul also includes an appropriate song to accompany each cocktail recipe … I love it!
Last night I made The Bees Knees cocktail (page 108 in the book) while listening to Paul’s recommended musical accompaniment, My House by Flo Rida.
So there you have it, this weekend’s meanderings.
Let’s visit Kim and Elizabeth to see what they’re up to.
Odds & Socks ~
Wetsuit shaming? If you’re a polar bear swimmer, it’s a thing.
If you love stuffed peppers, you’ll thank me for this recipe.
If you’re looking for something to watch this weekend, here’s a not great, but quite entertaining short series on Netflix.
Does your home need a cocktail room?
The San Francisco 49ers are playing in the conference championship game this weekend … with their rookie, last-pick-of-the-draft quarterback. It’s unbelievable … and so exciting. Confession – I’m late to board the 49er train. As an East Bay girl, I was a die-hard Oakland Raider fan, but their move to Las Vegas was the final straw. Are you a football fan? Who will you you cheering for this weekend?
Valentine’s Day Inspo ~
If you missed the last weekend’s meanderings, you can catch up here.
And follow along for more fun on Instagram and Pinterest.
As always, I appreciate your visit and welcome your thoughts in the comments below.
Cheers from Snowberry!
