5 Simple Ideas to Inspire Your Fall Decor

September 13, 2021 By Juliet 20 Comments

“Every leaf speaks bliss to me, fluttering from the autumn tree.”

~ Emily Bronte

Fall Wreath on Blue Dutch Door

It’s not fall … officially.

But I can read the room and it seems we’re over summer and ready for cooler temps, falling leaves and pumpkin spice everything.

Fall is my favorite season and I don’t think I’m alone.

While waiting for temperatures to cool, I’ve been combing through magazines, searching Pinterest, and scrolling photos of last year’s fall decor to get inspiration for this year.

As you know, I’m firmly in the less-is-more seasonal décor camp.

Now that I’m a big-time blogger (cough cough wink wink), my audience demands I get on board the fall décor train.

While I get my act together, let’s take a walk down memory lane.

It won’t take long, last year was my first fall season at Snowberry.

Let’s see what worked, what didn’t and what fall décor can be reused or repurposed this year.

FALL DÉCOR HOME TOUR

Last year was our first fall season at Snowberry and I went all out.

By all out I mean I decorated a little bit.

You can see the full fall decor home tour here.

FRONT PORCH FALL DÉCOR

Adding fall décor to the front porch is a lot of fun for me and where I devote most of my energy.

Last year’s wreath was a beauty.

I loved it so much and thought it worked really well with our front door color.

That said I’m giving it a rest this year (don’t worry it will make a triumphant return next year) and I ordered this eucalyptus wreath on Etsy.

Take a look at last year’s front porch fall décor here.

EASY FALL OUTDOOR TABLE SETTING

We’re incredibly lucky to enjoy beautiful warm evenings throughout October … ideal weather for outdoor entertaining.

I’m not what you’d call an effortless entertainer.

So, I make things easier on myself by creating one seasonal tablescape and repeating it throughout the season.

Check out my easy fall outdoor table here.

BACK PATIO FALL DÉCOR

Last fall, Snowberry’s back patio renovation was wrapping up.

I didn’t let the ongoing construction deter me from setting out some fall décor.

What’s a little dust, right?

We enjoyed many fall evenings sipping wine – and spritzers – around the new firepit.

You can see the almost finished patio decorated for fall here.

TWO PERFECT FALL COCKTAILS

Speaking of spritzers, it may be too early for pumpkins but it’s just right for seasonal cocktails.

Say cheers to these two perfect fall spritzers.

The Aperol Spritz is a drink for all seasons, but particularly pretty and refreshing in the fall.

See my version of this perfect fall cocktail here.

The Bourbon Spritz is a heartier cocktail that will warm you up on on a cool fall night.

I don’t know about you, but this walk down memory lane has me excited to start rummaging through my seasonal décor bins and get serious about decorating for fall.

Good thing our recent garage makeover and organization project has made the process a lot easier.

My fall (and other seasonal) décor is neatly organized in clear bins and ready to pull off the new garage cabinet shelves.

And it looks like there’s a little space remaining to store my new fall finds!

Today on the blog it's Weekend Meanderings with Kim and Elizabeth. The tragedy in Uvalde weighs heavily on our minds and Kim has written eloquently on how we can make difference.

As for me, I'm sharing my Cannes Film Festival experience, excitement about going to the movies this weekend, gin based spritzer and a bunch of other stuff. Including the pillows in this gorgeous photo from the Kit Kemp Collection for Annie Selkie.

I hope you'll join me, Kim and Elizabeth, today for a bit of shelter from the storm. Links to our blogs in our profiles.

Cocktails anyone?! It’s Friday ... traditionally Cocktails anyone?! It’s Friday ... traditionally cocktail night at Snowberry. Not tonight. But not to worry, I have cocktail recipes. You know I'm all about weddings (did you read my all-secrets-revealed blog post about @zzzissou and @melodymakhfi wedding? Linked in profile. 😉.) ... so today I'm sharing recipes for Kyle and Melody's signature cocktails.

Hers - Jalapeno Margarita with a Tajin rim (a must, says the bride)

1.5 oz Blanco tequila
Juice of two limes
1 tsp Agave nectar
1 Jalapeno (seeds & ribs removed)
Tajin rimming salt
Lime wedge rim glasses
Jalapeno & lime slice for garnish

Rub lime wedge around rim of glass. Dip rim into Tajin rimming salt. And fill with ice. Muddle jalapeno in cocktail shaker. Add ice, tequila, lime juice and agave. Shake vigorously. Strain into prepared glass. Garnish with jalapeño and lime slices.

His - Old Fashioned (Jim loves an Old Fashioned too, like father like son)

1.5 oz Bourbon
1 sugar cube
A few dashes Angostura bitters
A few dashes of water
Orange slice & cocktail cherry for garnish

Place sugar cube in old fashioned glass, add bitters & water. Muddle until dissolved. Fill glass with ice. Add bourbon. Gently stir. Garnish with orange slice (or zest) and cocktail cherry.

Cheers to you, the happy couple and the weekend! 🥃

This week I'm extolling the virtues of cinnamon raisin toast. But not just cinnamon raisin toast. A favorite blogger’s new book. You won't believe this but she recently bought a house in our old @myfidalgoislandhome neighborhood? A new-to-me interior design podcast. And inexpensive but well made serving platters ... essential for summer entertaining. Last but not least what my dermatologist recommended for my dry skin.

Holy moly … it’s 43 degrees this morning. Temp Holy moly … it’s 43 degrees this morning. Temps plummeted last night. I guess it’s a typical spring swing. I’m going to take advantage and have my cocoa in the library. We rarely use this room which is a real shame. Our sweet pups are no longer allowed inside. Dark velvet sofas and white dogs don’t mix. Not true, they do mix … a little too well. 😒 Anyway, they whine outside the door if I go in there. Jim will distract them with toast in his office and I should be good for a short time.

Yesterday I put two open house tours on Reels. I’m still learning and forgot there’s a 60 second limit. The outdoor spaces of the cute 1929 cottage got cut off. 🤦🏼‍♀️ I used a heavier hand editing the second house so it fits … mostly. Anyway, I’m sure you appreciate a more edited version. 😆 I tend to talk, write and record more than is necessary. As Jim says, when you’ve made the sale stop talking. 🤷‍♀️ I visited a 3rd house as well and need to work on it. New open house rule … one per week! 😉

Good morning and Happy Monday! 💙
