Remember last weekend I said we had sun and nice weather?
Well, things took a turn.
This week it’s been been foggy and windy.
We even had rain and in some areas thunderstorms.
Everyone’s had it.
Will the gloom ever end?
Melodramatic? Maybe. That’s the way we are out here.
We expect good weather with enough rain in the winter to keep our plants alive.
Speaking of plants, everything in our garden is a little delayed.
Looks like the hydrangeas will bloom next but probably not for a week or two.
Our roses are starting to drop petals.
I need to get out there and deadhead.
How are things looking in your garden?
You probably have garden chores to do too, so let’s get on with it.
FATHER’S DAY BRUNCH RECIPE IDEAS
Last weekend niece Sophie, husband Chad, and new baby Rett came for brunch. They were in town for a wedding. And they were celebrating their first anniversary, I shared their intimate, family wedding last summer. Their almost two year-old daughter, Haddie, stayed at home with her grandparents and we missed her. Niece Shelby who lives locally was able to join the fun. It was a good Sunday.
These favorite and super easy recipes are also perfect for Father’s Day brunches ~
Ina’s French Country Omelette (I made two of them!)
Dutch Babies from my Auntie Cookie’s recipe. (Preheat oven to 425. Place 1/4 cup butter in a 8-10″ round pan. Put into preheated oven to melt. Meanwhile, in a blender, mix 3 eggs, 3/4 cup whole milk, 3/4 cup flour until smooth. Pour into pan of melted butter and return to oven for 20-25 minutes. Sprinkle with powdered sugar and serve immediately.)
Cantaloupe & Blackberry salad … recipe shared here.
Blueberry Muffins from the old Pillsbury Cookbook. I use the basic muffin recipe and add a cup of blueberries and 1 tablespoon fresh lemon zest to the batter.
I made two kinds of breakfast sausage links, which remained warming in the oven until late afternoon. Do you ever forget things?! I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I’m not an effortless entertainer.
Sophie brought fresh eggs from her chickens … yum. I used them in the Dutch babies and enjoyed them all week.
Baby Rett was born in February. Sophie thinks he looks like her grandpa, my dad. And I agree. It’s the round, happy face and big blue eyes!
I sent Sophie home with some frozen meals and a big batch of Morning Glory Muffins (I shared the recipe here) for Haddie. Haddie got hold of the leftover blueberry muffins too.
FATHER’S DAY GIFT IDEA
Let me preface this by saying I’m not a creative gift giver. I’m a practical one. Last weekend when Jim stocked up on summer shorts at Vineyard Vines it occurred to me that they’d make a great Father’s Day gift idea for fun and fashionable dads … of all ages.
Jim went into the store to look at these seersucker shorts and bought them in blue and red. He also bought their solid, stretch short in red and khaki.
While Jim was trying on shorts, this striped pullover caught my eye … and I guess he liked it because it ended up in his shopping bag. It works beautifully with all his fancy schmancy new shorts.
I asked him to model his new shorts and pullover so I could take pictures and he politely declined. Not to worry, when he’s running around Italy I’ll sneak a photo or two.
One last thought in the Father’s Day gift arena, Jim loves these Yeti Rambler wine tumblers … for ‘roadies’ when he’s on the golf course. I like them too, for ice tea.
GOLDEN GIRLS KITCHEN POP UP
A few months ago I mentioned the Golden Girls Kitchen pop up restaurant coming to San Francisco. And this week my friend, Mary Jo, and I went for lunch. A late lunch. The first seating on weekdays (Wed-Fri) is at 2:00pm. On weekends they open at 10:00am.
I wish I could say it was wonderful. It could have been wonderful, but there was nobody there. Well, almost nobody. We were there … and a handful of other tables were occupied. The good news is we were able to wander the rooms to our hearts content … recreated room from Blanche’s Miami home. The kitchen, living room, bedroom and the lanai. Oh, and the Rusty Anchor and Shady Pines bars. They did a good enough job recreating the sets … although Mary-Jo and I thought we could have done a better job and we spent a lot of time critiquing the details. Our server, a Shady Pines employee, was very nice and volunteered to take photos … and suggested photo ideas that had us busting up. Here we were directed to pretend we were both listening to something scandalous on the phone in Blanche’s room. We did our best, but I don’t think Hollywood will be calling anytime soon.
When we purchased our tickets we pre-ordered Sophia’s lasagna and garlic bread. It was good. And chocolate cheesecake for dessert. They offered additional side dishes and several themed cocktails. We both ordered The Dorothy, a vodka based spritz.
I’m not sure why the place wasn’t packed. The pop-up was a huge hit in Beverly Hills … and sold out its run. It’s also been to New York City and is currently up and running in Chicago. Miami is next. Anyway, it was a fun idea and we were excited to be there. Mary Jo and I have known each other since 1981 when we worked in the same office building. We hadn’t seen each other in quite a few years and had a good time catching up and sharing our mutual nostalgia and affection for the Golden Girls. Mary Jo has watched all the episodes through twice. As have I and am working on a third time through. It’s comfort TV.
If you too are a Golden Girls super fan and want to see what it’s all about, I’d suggest a booking on a weekend when things are more lively. Many of the Sunday brunches are nearly sold out. The pop-up runs through July 30 and you can buy tickets here.
SUPER CUTE SUMMER DRESS
Strolling through Nordstrom on the way to my personal styling appointment last month this smock top, striped La Ligne dress caught my eye. And I was delighted to find it waiting for me in the dressing room. I paired it with Cinq a Sept’s ruched sleeve blazer in a bright blue. It looks a bit denim-ish (it’s not denim), with a top stitch detail that gives it a little western flare. You may remember I wore this same blazer in gold to Kyle’s wedding last year. I’m a blazer gal and Cinq a Sept’s ruched sleeve style is so fun and flattering. I have to restrain myself from buying it it in every color. But back to the outfit, I wore it recently for a wine tasting day in Napa with my white woven drop earrings (good news, it’s back in stock), white sandals and my favorite ClareV. basket bag. I just ordered this black and white strap for it to take to Italy. Speaking of Italy, I ordered these Veronica Beard espadrille platform wedges too. Fingers and toes crossed they arrive in time.
This is such a cute summer outfit to wear for all sort of occasions … brunches, lunches, dinners, vacations, showers … casual weddings. Or wandering around the streets of Paris … or shores of Lake Como!

The dress also comes in this pretty floral pattern, and this lighter blue stripe. And in solid black and hot pink. It’s a flattering, easy to wear style.
CBK: A LIFE IN FASHION
When Carolyn Bessette, later Kennedy, hit the scene in the 1990’s she quickly became a style icon. We all know the tragedy that unfolded, yet Carolyn and her timeless, classic style is still relevant some 24 years later. Finally there’s a proper book celebrating her fashion sense, CBK: A Life in Fashion, available for pre-order to be released the first part of November. I’m counting the days.
Who can forget her Narciso Rodriguez bias cut wedding dress. My favorite wedding dress of all time.
Or this skirt, sweater, boot combo she wore shortly after returning from her honeymoon. Could be the chicest outfit ever.
Her evening wear was stunning in it’s elegance and simplicity.
And what she wore in her downtime was equally on point.
Carolyn’s style was everything the #quietluxury #oldmoneyaesthetic #stealthweath trend wants to be. Of course, she herself did not chase trends … and her icon status lives on because of it.

And that’s what I have for you this week.
Let’s see what’s inspiring Kim and Elizabeth …
Just one (a few) more thing(s) ~
Need summer sandal inspiration? Kim and Cindy’s Signature Style post for June has you covered. You’ll find Kim’s Summer Sandal Edit here, and Cindy’s Stylish and Comfortable Sandal ideas here.
Some things people with clean bathrooms always do.
A couple of books I downloaded this week … The Paris Apartment and Cassandra in Reverse.
One of my favorite bloggers recently celebrated her 60th birthday … with a beautiful party. Take a look!
If you haven’t seen the movie AIR, it’s so good. Matt Damon gives an amazing performance. As does Viola Davis. There’s no violence, cartoon characters or superheros. Just good old-fashioned story telling. It’s streaming on Prime … watch the trailer here.
Reminder that you can save 10% off Change of Scenery resort wear orders over $100 until June 30th using my code Spritzer10!
And a little gallows humor … my heart goes out to everyone on the East Coast overwhelmed by smoke from the Canadian wildfires. Here in the Bay Area we feel your pain. It was nearly three years ago we experienced a similar apocalypse and I got a good laugh out of this reporters post.
