Today on Weekend Meanderings it’s coat season! I’m also sharing my latest Target finds, a weeknight, one-dish dinner recipe and Hood Canal Candle Co.’s new winter scents!
Happy weekend, friends!
It’s Saturday and I’m joining Kim and Elizabeth for our weekend roundup.
All manner of inspiration and goings on.

Hello November.
Are you ready to fall back?
We used the heck out of our fireplace last week.
Then suddenly it warmed up.
But the light has shifted and the house feels a little moodier.
We finished the first three seasons of Van Der Valk on Masterpiece.
Highly recommend.
And started the second season of Bosch: Legacy.
Intense.
IT’S COAT SEASON
It’s officially coat season here in Northern California. My favorite Fluerette wool camel coat made its first outing to dinner with friends in Sonoma.
I love this coat for many reasons, not the least of which is its length. Not quite peacoat short, but short enough to wear comfortably in the car and toss over the back of a chair without skimming the floor. It’s heavy enough to be warm, and light enough to carry easily. Casual enough for day, and also appropriate for nights out. I’ve scoured the internet for good camel coats of all lengths and styles in the event you’re in the market.
I really like this one from Sezane.
And this wool cashmere blend from Cuyana.
Here are some others that caught my eye.

ONE-DISH WEEKNIGHT DINNER
Last weekend I made a yummy one-dish Sunday lunch. I had boneless pork chops in the freezer that needed to be used. It’s delicious (and easy) and we had a repeat performance on Monday.
Some may turn up their noses, but as a child of the 60’s and 70’s, I adore any kind of casserole or one-dish meal. Better yet if it involves Hamburger Helper or Stove Top Stuffing. My mom, bless her heart, was not a great cook (she would have told you this herself) so these were gourmet meals to my sister and I.
Baked Pork Chops & Stuffing
Ingredients
- 1 Apple, chopped
- 1 Yellow onion, chopped
- 1 tbsp Extra virgin olive oil
- 4 Thick-cut boneless pork chops
- 2 tsp Fresh chopped rosemary
- 2 tsp Fresh chopped thyme + more for garnish
- Salt & pepper to taste
- 6 oz box Stove Top stuffing mix + butter & water per instructions
- 1 cup Sweet white corn (frozen is fine)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400
- Grease large baking dish or spray with cooking spray
- Chop one peeled apple + one onion and place in bottom of dish
- Prepare stuffing according to package directions adding frozen corn along with dry stuffing mix
- Season both sides of pork chops with salt, rosemary and thyme
- In large saute pan, heat olive oil over medium heat
- Brown pork chops for a few minutes on each side
- Place browned pork on top of apple and onion slices in baking dish
- Place stuffing around pork chops
- Cover dish with foil and bake for 25 minutes
- Remove foil and continue baking for 10-15 minutes, until internal temperature of pork reaches 145 degrees
- Garnish with fresh thyme and serve
GARDEN NEST SHOP
The sweetest new home and garden shop recently opened in downtown Orinda. It’s called Garden Nest and it’s right next door to my favorite consignment store, ReChic. I mentioned ReChic here following my summer closet clean out. In fact, ReChic’s newsletter alerted me to Garden Nest’s opening. I recently dropped into ReChic to consign some fall and winter pieces. And, good news, they sold my Louis Vuitton bag (along with a bunch of other things) so I pocketed a nice check. And I bought a pair of Re/Done classic 70’s clogs (more on those a little later). Then I headed next door to check out Garden Nest. Look, they have a blue Dutch door too!
What an adorable shop … full of indoor and outdoor plants, cute vessels, gardening tools, seeds, candles, garden books and journals, cute home and gifts items … and so much more.
The upstairs is set up with a large table for classes. Last week they held a succulent pumpkin class.
They have a beautiful back patio too.
Welcome Garden Nest … what a great addition to our little town. You need to see it for yourself! They have so many wonderful things for your Thanksgiving table and decor … and do I need to remind you Christmas is coming?! Don’t forget to pop into ReChic too.
TARGET STYLE
I stopped at Target this week and before I could make it to the grocery aisles, I found myself in a dressing room trying on this sweater, cropped tee and jeans. By the way, the Re/Done classic clogs I’m wearing were a steal find at ReChic and you’d faint if I told you what I paid for them.
Recently I’ve been sharing a lot of higher priced clothing pieces, but I’m always a fan of Target style and love a high low mix and match aesthetic. After my summer closet clean out my closet felt a little light on denim (Jim begs to differ) and I made a wish list of a few updated styles I’d like to add. This pair this high waist, relaxed fit pair from Universal Threads checked a box. Size up for the most comfortable fit.
Cropped Tee | Crewneck Cotton Sweater | High Waist Denim | Classic Clog | Bracelet
Next week I’ll tell you about two other pair I recently added to my closet. They’re at the tailor right now for hems (I have to hem just about everything). If you’re local, I love Creative Tailoring on Brown Avenue in Lafayette.
I’m planning a post on the best white t-shirts and just started my buying spree research. White tees are a daily staple in my wardrobe but this is another area where my inventory is low. The tee I’m sharing today from Target is cropped. I wouldn’t normally reach for a cropped tee, but with high waisted jeans they work. And I love that there’s no need to tuck it in when layering with a sweater. I also ordered Madewell’s vintage tees in white and black (3 for $36). This ribbed tee, also from Madewell, is my favorite so far. Stay tuned for a full white tee report.
HOOD CANAL CANDLES – WINTER DROP
Hood Canal Candle Co. dropped their winter fragrances yesterday. Pamela sent me two new scents … Cranberry Prosecco and Mistletoe. Can you guess which one I favor? The new scents are in addition to Gingerbread Cottage and Winter Wonderland.
Both new candles smell heavenly and have me in the holiday spirit. I know, I know … calm down, it’s only November and I plan to enjoy our fall decor through Thanksgiving. That said, I’ve embraced earlier holiday decorating and by that I mean Thanksgiving weekend. If I get my act together we’ll have Thanksgiving dinner beside the twinkling lights of our Christmas tree with holiday candles flickering around the room.
But back to Hood Canal Candle Co. winter candles … get them while you can. The last day to order is December 13th.

Odds & Socks ~
The passing of beloved blogger Joni Webb (Cote de Texas) was a shock as well as a tremendous loss. This week my blogging friends Mary Ann (Classic Casual Home) and Cindy (Cindy Hattersley Designs) remembered Joni on their blogs. It seems Joni will be remembered as much for her humor as for her incredible eye for design. If you loved Joni you won’t want to miss Mary Ann and Cindy’s tributes.
